Former Doctor Who star picks up two awards at the NTAStephen Fry was amongst the winners at the NTA, taking home two awards. The actor and presenter won Most Popular Star Travel Documentary for Stephen Fry in America and a Special Recognition Award.
He gave an emotional speech at the ceremony, following a tribute tape that saw accolades from his former comedy partner Hugh Laurie, comedian Jo Brand and the Prince of Wales.
Fry was clearly moved by the comments, saying: “I really am completely staggered by this, I had no idea it was going to happen and I feel so unworthy of the most remarkable tribute I’ve ever seen.”
It was a good night for former Doctor Who actor David Tennant, who was awarded the Outstanding Drama Performance prize for the fourth year in a row. He stepped up again to accept a separate award for the sci-fi show.
Ant and Dec took were once again awarded Most Popular Entertainment Programme for their antics on Saturday Night Takeaway, and the award for Most Popular Entertainment Presenter, an award they will both share.
Coronation Street was voted Most Popular Serial Drama by viewers. The soap is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
The highlight of the evening might have been X Factor winner Joe McElderry who opened the show with Don't Stop Believing. However, he was somewhat over shadowed by twins Jedward, who performed a version of Queen's Pressure, with help from Vanilla Ice who appeared on stage.
The awards were presented by X Factor host Dermot O'Leary.
